Hi,
Thought you would like to know a little more about me. I am
a registered nurse who has more than 40 years experience in
various fields of nursing. My main area of interest has been
alternative therapy. I have seen too many people suffer from
the side effects and expected effects of traditional medicine
and felt there had to be a better way to help people. So in 1989
I began my quest for better ways to heal. I have studied many
areas of alternative treatment including Reiki, Healing Touch,
Homeopathy, herbs, aromatherapy and flower essences. Each
seemed to help certain problems but none was applicable to
all illnesses. The one area that was not helped by any therapy
was asthma. I have a daughter who had exertional asthma as
a child. When the doctor treating her, barely able to breathe
from asthma himself, prescribed an inhaler with praises about
how they enabled him to exercise, I intuitively decided that
was the last thing I would use for her. It obviously was not
making him any better. We avoided the situations that gave her
the breathing difficulty and got through it successfully. I was
grateful her problem was minor. But that left a lasting
impression in my mind.
I have worked in the teaching area of health since 1983. I
taught student nurses at the
local community college for a
number of years and then gave that up to work with home
health care which was my first love in nursing. I worked for
the Red Cross teaching various health related courses. I moved
from Pittsburgh, PA to N Ft. Myers, FL in 2002 and was back
into home health care. I
also have my own business teaching
about the various alternative treatments.
In the fall of 1999 I read an article by Dr. Paul Ameisen about
Buteyko and felt I had found the answer to the asthma problem.
I was careful though, as I knew too many treatments were
promoted that did not work. I attended two weeks of courses
in Atlanta, GA and took the course myself. I watched other
clients get rid of their reliever inhalers by the third day of class
and start dropping their preventer meds on the fourth and
fifth days. All felt better than they had in years. I was
offered
the opportunity to go to New Zealand to study the Buteyko
Breathing Method and teach for four weeks. The method is
used widely in New Zealand, Australia, England and Russia.
I went in February and March 2000 and saw dozens of people,
young and old alike, go off their reliever and regular medications
and feel wonderful. They
were no longer having asthma attacks
and could do many of the activities they had long ago given up.
My own sinus problem was completely cleared and I ended the
Sleep Apnea problem I was developing.
I have been teaching this wonderful therapy to others since then.
It is so rewarding to see people regain control of their lives and
enjoy each day free of breathing problems.
