This course teaches the physiology of breathing and oxygen usage in the body. This involves five classes teaching
the theory and exercises to correct the effects of hyperventilation and other breathing abnormalities.
Class one: Physiology of breathing and oxygen usage.
How medications act in this cycle. Exercises
to measure breathing efficiency and beginning
exercises for resetting the breathing rate.
Class two: How food effects breathing. What nutrients
are important to breathing health. Exercises
for resetting breathing rate continued. Exercise
to ease shortness of breath appropriate for
student's health problems.
Class three: Hyperventilation and how it effects the body.
Exercises to control hyperventilation episodes.
Practice previous exercises and measure their
effectiveness.
Class four: Physical exercise with the Buteyko Method.
Methods
of reducing overbreathing. Practice
of
previous exercises.
Class five: Managing illness with Buteyko. Looking at
lifestyle
changes. Mastering the exercise
records.
Reducing the exercise schedule as
breathing
efficiency improves. How to maintain
improvement.
Review of previous material.
All classes have a question and answer time. Each student is given individual attention to be certain they have
mastered the required information to improve and maintain breathing health. Course includes a booklet with information,
charts and exercise descriptions. Homework practicing the exercises is an integral part of the program. Visual
aids are used in the teaching process. Each class lasts about one to one and a half hours.
